Margaret Cowan, MSW is the Founding Keeper of I Am My Sister’s Keeper (IAMSK), a nonprofit established in 2018 to reduce barriers that prevent single mothers from thriving. She is also the creator of The Magnificence of Melanin (TMOM), a community-centered platform that celebrates Black womanhood, amplifies authentic narratives, and creates spaces for healing and collective empowerment.
Margaret earned her Associate’s degree from Southwest Tennessee Community College, her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology (Summa Cum Laude), and her Master of Social Work from the University of Memphis. She is currently pursuing licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), committed to expanding access to culturally grounded mental health care in communities of color.
A trained nonprofit leader and equity advocate, Margaret serves with the Black-Led Nonprofit Alliance at the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis. At her core, she is a bridge-builder—creating spaces where women and people of color are seen, supported, and reminded of their inherent worth.
